Band LogoThe NMMI Band program is composed of high school and junior college cadets from a variety of backgrounds and levels of musical experience. Each group’s goal is to strive to develop each individual ensemble member’s musical potential while providing ample opportunities for performance participation, academic growth, and the development of leadership skills.

There are two bands at NMMI: The Regimental Marching/Concert Band and Jazz Band. The members of the marching/concert band are also members of Headquarters Troop, one of 12 troops in the Corps of Cadets. Headquarters troop sets the tone for the Corps of Cadet’s. It has been said that “NMMI BAND RULES THE HILL… ALWAYS HAS, ALWAYS WILL.”

The Regimental Marching/Concert Band, the Institute’s select large instrumental ensemble, leads the NMMI. Corps of Cadets in parade and performs for variety of campus, community, and regional events. This group has performed for two U.S. Presidents and a Supreme Court Justice; at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in NYC, at Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm theme parks; and at the San Diego Zoo and various military installations. The Headquarters Live! Jazz Band is a select stage band for those cadets who have an interest in performing various jazz-related styles.

Financial aid may be available for deserving Regimental Band cadets. Band scholarships are awarded by the scholarship committee upon the Bandmaster’s recommendation.
